We have a great source for local beef from the Nebraska panhandle. Here is a little information on this family and the great beef they offer!

Western Cattle Source is located near Crawford, Nebraska.  Jock, Brenda and Skye Beeson care about their cattle and land.  

We raise our cattle from conception to the plate.  WCS strives to use the best genetics and feed available to produce antibiotic and hormone free beef.  We take extreme pride in our quality of product.  Both the commercial and award winning registered Simmental and Simangus cattle are not only raised on natural grasses but are only vaccinated with preventative vaccines.  If we have to use antibiotics those cattle are marked, identified and marketed accordingly.  We feed and develop everything right here on the ranch.   

Our meat is lean with good marbling and tenderness.  We butcher our cattle at USDA inspected plants.  The cattle are under 24 months of age, ideally we like them to be 14 to 18 months of age.  They hang for at least 21 days.  They are fed a balanced ration of hay, grain and mineral to optimize quality.  

WCS is making land management and conservation a priority as well.  Our land is intermingled with the Oglala National Grasslands where cattle and horses graze on natural grasses such as Grama, Wheat and Buffalo grasses. Adding water pipelines and new fencing has made pasture rotation much more efficient and easier to do on a regular basis. The addition of tree belts not only provide wildlife habitat but prevent soil erosion as well.  The restructuring of dams has been a major but necessary undertaking.  Adding game fish to these dams will add an extra component to the wildlife structure not to mention some great fishing.  WCS is involved in many conservation programs.
